In our case, we are starting an online business which requires investment in time and the financial cost is minimal.

The rapid advances in technology, the seemingly infinite amount of information available to all, and the innovative mindset of millions of people have created an extraordinarily suitable environment for success. We are in the information age where knowledge is currency, and people are craving it, the more they have the better off they are.

How are you going to make money online
We are going to create an online business that makes money from satisfying people’s appetite for a specific topic of interest by providing informational content about that topic. Have you wondered why there is so much free information available on the internet? That information is there because someone is potential make money from it every time we visit. The most beautiful thing about this business model is you don’t need to be an expert. Just use the internet to research your topic and compile the information whether by video, audio or write words in an engaging manner. All you do is offer really good information, create a community around your blog and attract a lot of visitors. Then, you pick one of many ways to monetize your blog.

The technology available today has made it easy for nontechnology individuals to start an online business.  But making any amount of money online is very difficult if you do not know what to do. The truth is with the right steps making $100 per month online is relatively easy. The true difficulty is scaling your online business, by utilizing the internet as a force multiplier to increase the $100 per month to $10,000 per month.

If you have an internet connection, you can get started on the road to having the internet pay for your mortgage, car payment, kids’ college tuition, or even that special vacation you’ve wanted. Yes, that is it. But the secret of success is in the tools and methods that you use. I am going to tell you what the pro use and say and guide you through what is practical, what works for real people in the shortest time.

At this point you may be saying, I have nothing to offer.Keep this in mind it is the information age you don’t need to be great at anything. You just need to do research and acquire knowledge on a subject of interested and teach others via the internet.

2. Identify your online business niche

Identify and leverage your biggest natural strengths. Experience has taught me that it’s different strokes for different folks, and there is no “one size fits all” perfect business. You’re much more likely to be successful if you do something you find fun and interesting. Everyone has things that they love. It may be collecting Sports memorabilia. It may be gardening or couponing. The list could go on. What do you love? What are you passionate about? Make a list of the things you really enjoy.

To Start an online business you need a niche

Some people already have a field of expertise, such as being a carpenter, a nutritionist or just being really good at baking cakes. What are the things you are good at or knowledgeable about? Write down a list of them.

What Makes a Great Niche? The biggest and most popular niches are, on the whole, fitness, making money and dating. So what is it that makes these three topics such great niches? All three are on topics that have a universal appeal and that literally everyone can enjoy. All of us have relationships, most of us want more money and most of us want to be fitter. Thus by choosing these topics, you ensure that your target audience is not at all going to be a limiting factor. What’s more, you give yourself lots to write about. But what makes these niche great also makes them subpar. What’s that? It’s the fact that they all have a huge amount of competition and are arguably overcrowded. If you create a blog on fitness, dating or making money, you’ll be going up against thousands of other established blogs and websites and it will be rather difficult to stand out.

So in the perfect world, you’d be able to find a niche with a big audience and a broad, very strong appeal, but that didn’t yet have much competition. This is actually what the term ‘niche’ means in a business sense: it means a gap in the market that you can exploit. As we mentioned, the niche that you select is also going to have a broad impact on the details of your business. One way that this is true is in the way it impacts on your demographic – some niches will have loyal audiences with lots of disposable income and that’s also what you ideally want. But the most important factor of all for your niche? That would be that it appeals to you and that you find it interesting. Take a look at your list and narrow it down to the best thing that people are interested in. This is your target market.

Most likely you will need to narrow your target market down to what internet marketers call a niche. For example; if you are knowledgeable in fitness this is too broad and too competitive a market you may want to narrow it down to how to Stay Fit over 65. In marketing, it’s understood that if you claim your market to be everyone for a specific product or service, it will likely result in no one purchasing. 3. Get Host & Domain Name for your website

The first thing you need to invest in to start an online business is a good website. To create a website you need two things a Hosting company and a Domain name. DOMAIN NAME – Your website address or naming convention use to locate website in the internet.(eg; You can buy (rent) the domain name from your hosting company for about $12 USD for 1 year. 

Principles for choosing a domain name. For SEO purposes consider selecting a name that reflects the content on your site instead of your company name but any name is ok. For example instead of Although a domain name can be up to 63 characters long shorter is better. Avoid Hyphens (-) & Numbers – People may forget to type in the hyphen and numbers are confusing. They will ask for a year upfront for this price so it is $6.95 X 12 for the year. It is best to get a plan with unlimited domains, unlimited bandwidth and unlimited space. Keep in mind with all hosting company there is no such thing as unlimited as you and I define it. Unlimited means the normal user will never exceed it.This will allow your grow your website and build more websites for the same hosting cost. They provide the backup service, technical support, 99% uptime & the ability to upgrade plan as required. 4. Get & Setup your WordPress Website

For s successful online business it is best that you get an easy to manage website that requires no coding experience or expert knowledge necessary. For this reason I only recommend the WORDPRESS platform. WordPress is a content management system (CMS) that allows you to add pages, words and images with the easy of using Microsoft Word. To put this into perspective, without a CMS you would need to pay a developer to maintain and update HTML code on your website.

A WordPress theme provides all of the front end styling of your WordPress site. Just like WordPress plugins, you can choose from over a thousand free themes from the WordPress Theme Directory. Premium, paid themes are worth it for the small extra cost, they usually have a more reliable code base, better design and offer support if something goes wrong. Plugins are created by the web development community to extend the functionalities of the basic wordpress site. 6. How to Get free Traffic to my website

All successful online business require lots of visitors.

The best place to get lots of visitors is from the search engines (google). To get google to send visitors to our site you need to perform some key steps on your site and off your site to make google believe you have an authority site.  The first step is to add your site URL to search engines. The first thing you should do after create your website is to begin your quest for high search engine ranking. But the truth is first page ranking for a high traffic search term is very competitive because some terms represent 10s of 1000s of dollars in income per month. Nevertheless, this should be your long term goal. Go to google and Bing and add your site URL. Later, maybe in a few weeks join Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster tools to monitor your site performance.

Our goal is to optimize your website using SEO best practices so your site will rank high organically (naturally).  But this is going to take weeks, months or longer before you get a high enough ranking in google to drive traffic. Now should you just sit there and wait for people to find your new site? Certainly not! Here are the top free tips for driving visitors to your site free. Utilize at least 6 of them.

  • Article Marketing
    Write 3 articles that are related to the topic of your website. Include a brief bio and link to your website at the end of the article. Submit each of these articles to article directories, and also to webmasters and ezine (electronic Magazine) owners that rank well for your keywords.   • Forum Marketing
    Do a search on Google for keyword+forum. If you have a pet related site, for example, search “pet forum” (without quotes). Find the top 3 forums in your niche and join each of them.     Go to & and find questions related to your niche or website. If you can provide a legitimate answer to their question, you can include your link as the resource or reference URL. Again, without spamming, if you can contribute to the community you will interest them in your related website.
  • Viral Marketing
    Viral marketing is a business strategy that uses existing social networks to promote a product. Its name refers to how consumers spread information about a product with other people in their social networks, much in the same way that a virus spreads from one person to another. The basis of viral marketing is in the spread of information by word-of-mouth (see Word-of-Mouth marketing), but modern technology has allowed the viral effect to include many Internet-based platforms as well. 

    The viral effect can spread through many different networks, including:

    • Word-of-mouth
    • Email
    • Social networking sites (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc)
    • Video sharing sites (Youtube, Vimeo, etc)
    • Web forums

    Set up profiles at popular social networking sites like Twitter, Linkedin, Facebook, Tumblr, Pinterest etc. Network with people in your niche and get established on these sites with a customized profile. If you can use “photo marketing” to your advantage (cute pet pictures for a pet site, for example), include in your networking list as well.   • Blogging

  • Press Releases
    You can write and submit a press release free of charge. While some websites charge to publish your press release (and this may be worth the investment!), many also offer a free submission option.     Submit your new site to appropriate directories, and get it listed on niche resource pages. Link farms and exchanges on “link pages” are a waste of your time, but do seek out quality linking opportunities. You want a variety of links pointing to your site, not only to your main page but also to internal pages of your site as well.
  • Funnel Traffic From Other Sites
    This strategy may require a little creativity, but you want to consider ways that you can funnel traffic from popular websites such as: craigslist, ebay, youtube, wikipedia, etc. These are very popular websites that are established and bursting at the seems with live visitors. 7. How to get paid traffic for my website

Earlier we stated that striving for high ranking on google is one way to ensure success when starting an online business. However, the reality is high ranking in google could take weeks or months and many people never reach there. So what can you do if you need traffic today. Don’t fear the paid traffic alternative can be even more effective for some marketers. In fact, the experts that prefer paid traffic says it is a better and more controlled way to drive traffic.  Generating sales from paid traffic can be a very lucrative if the online business model is scaleable. For example, if you can spend $100 for traffic and generate more than $125 in sales, and it is replicable, that represents $25 in profits each time. Now imagine boosting online business sales by spending $1000 per day on paid traffic, you would generate $250 per day in revenue. Spend $10,000 per day on advertising and generate $2,500 in revenue.

How to Get Traffic Today
For example, if you can spend $100 for traffic and generate more than $125 in sales, and it is replicable, that represents $25 in profits each time. Now imagine boosting online business sales by spending $1000 per day on paid traffic, you would generate $250 per day in revenue. Spend $10,000 per day on advertising and generate $2,500 in revenue.
Most small businesses and start-ups are lucky to have a few thousand dollars to make a splash, let alone a bankroll that could feed the third world. So, what little money you have needs to be spent wisely.   • LinkedIn: For B2B marketing mostly.
  • 7 Search: uses smaller, niche search engines to display your (PPC) ads.
  • Facebook: Ads work like display ads, and are best for top-of-funnel marketing.  
  • StumbleUpon: Seriously amazing content that grabs the user immediately.  
  • Google Adwords: Offers CPC ads and can be highly targeted.
  • Bing: Similar to Google Adwords, but with less competition.

These are but a few of the ad networks out there that are considered effective, but there are plenty of trustworthy alternative ad network sites too. Let us use google Adsense as an example. The problem with this tool is that it tends to push people toward very broad keywords that are far more expensive and much less effective. These are called “head” keywords.

It is important to remember that you aren’t necessarily looking for the highest-traffic keywords. You are looking for the words that your customers use to look for you. So, you will need to be on the lookout for something the online marketing industry called “long tail keywords.” These keywords are the longer, more specific keywords that, when added together, make up the majority of search-driven traffic. Your long tail keyword will normally be the specific product you refer to in your article or the product your company sells. For example, we have a guide titled “how to start an online business step by step”. In this case, the head keyword is “online business” but it is too broad to drive the desired traffic. Online business is an umbrella term for many topics not discussed in our article so many visitors will quickly leave.

Now remember you are paying for each visitor that arrive at your site so want only people who desire what you offer. To get a more targeted audience, it is better to use, a long tail keywords, such as “how to start a successful online business for beginners”.  This phase is more specific it will generate less, visitors, but they will be more targeted and therefore they will be more interested in my article. Please keep this in mind if you decide to move ahead with paid advertising. Focusing on a target audience works best whether you are advertising on Google adwords or facebook. If you are going to try paid advertising do not start with Google Adwords. Try Facebook, 7 Search or Bing first. I would suggest you start with FACEBOOK first. Start with a maximum spending of $10 per day and really target your audience. Wait for some success before increasing expenditure. 

8. Make Money with Affiliate Marketing

This is the most rewarding phase of your quest to start an online business. Affiliate marketing is the method by which you convert your visitors into money and turn your online adventure into a viable online business. Basically, you as a publisher will be rewarded when you help a business by promoting their products or services.

So for example, if you sign up for company B affiliate program and promote it’s products then you will get a commission when the visitor you send from your site makes a purchase. Most reputable online merchants have affiliate programs. For instants I am an affiliate for Bluehost, they provide me with a special hyperlink with a tracking code that I add to my website. When a visitor clicks this link and immediately purchase a hosting account I receive about $60 as a referral fee.

Affiliate marketing is probably one of the quickest and cheapest (not the easiest) ways to start making money online as you don’t have to create any products yourself. You simply link up a buyer and a seller, and you take a commission on the sale.  Affiliate marketing is one of best option to make money on internet but still there are lots of people who want to make money online that do not know about it.

Affiliate marketing is simply selling a product for commission. This is precisely the same business model as being a door-to-door salesman. You sell a product that someone else made but for a cut of the profit. There are a few key differences between being an affiliate marketer though and being a door to door salesman – key differences that make what we do online far more appealing and potentially profitable. The first and most obvious advantage of being an affiliate marketer is that you’ll be selling products online rather than having to do it face to face. This makes the job considerably easier if you’re someone who doesn’t have the ‘gift of the gab’ and it also means you’ll have considerably lower overheads and considerably less work to do yourself. As an affiliate marketer you can work from home and potentially make a great income as some have done.

Here is a list of affiliate marketplaces which allows marketer to select from hundreds of company products and services from any niche to promote on their blog. Each company offer a different commission per sale ranging from 10 % to 100%. Take some time to research and find the right product based total cost, commission, and the amount of people willing to buy.

Call to action increase online business sales
Select an affiliate product you have confidence in. Write soft but compelling calls to action for your affiliate products that directly state what you think about the products. Offer incentives to take action such as, for example,  “Get a 50% Coupon.”

Join the affiliate program for products your audience would be interested in, that sells well, that you have great confidence in. Almost all online companies today have an affiliate program. Try to sell a digital product or service if possible, the commission percentage tends to be much greater. For digital affiliate products, I recommend joining, JVZOO affiliate marketplace.
